Mike noticed the first gold star because it didn’t belong.
It sat on the corner of a case file like it had wandered there by accident, bright and obnoxiously cheerful against a sea of black text and yellow legal pad scribbles. For a second he thought it was some leftover from the mailroom, maybe something stuck to Harvey’s folder before it made its way upstairs. He turned the file slightly, expecting it to fall off.
It didn’t.

Most people get their wisdom teeth out in high school, college maybe. But not Mike Ross. No, Mike Ross’s wisdom teeth don’t become a problem until he’s a second year associate at this insanely powerful law firm and the only person he has to list as an emergency contact when the dentist asks is Harvey Hot Stuff Specter. He may have even written that on the form. Seriously. Because the gas he breathed in before they yanked his teeth out was awesome sauce. And whatever they topped him up with afterwards was enough to blast him into orbit. He’s grinning a lot. And thanks to the wad of paper towels pressed to his face, he’s barely even drooling anymore.
