Summary
In 1953 NYC, Zoey is trudging through life while working at Macy's during the Christmas season, waiting for something to happen to her. Her life completely changes when she meets Rumi, a wealthy single mother who is currently going through a divorce.
Rumi is almost done finalizing her divorce from Jinu with heavy expectations weighing down on her. The last thing she's expecting is to fall in love with a younger woman who returns her gloves.
Mira has settled for having a life split in two: her brief "connections" with women she meets at bars in the bustling (but underground) NYC lesbian scene; and her suburban life with her goddaughter Mimi and best friend Rumi...who just so happens to be the love of her life. When Rumi starts to show interest in someone new, Mira struggles with memories of the past while growing fond of Rumi's new love interest.

Lena is on her fifth sleepless night in a row when her dear friend Jess suggests she visit a doctor for her troubles. Her suggestion is given slyly, a smirk painted on Jess’s face. This smirk has not always ended well for Lena, but she is desperate, overcome with shocking thoughts and tossing and turning, and so she accepts a recommendation: a Dr. Danvers, of Marylebone.
This moment is one she will spend her life looking back on, at times rueing and others thanking a giving and kind God for.
