Summary
For a moment, there is only the sound of their sword clashing against your mace, the two of you side stepping and circling each other until there’s nothing in this world but you and them and then, they stumble.
You hear them tripping over their own feet, their armoured boots clanking oddly against the ground and you gracefully wait a moment before swinging at them. They dodge, then stop moving and you brace for a hit that never arrives.
Their breaths echo through your throne room.
“What are you doing?” you rasp, taking a step back.Aka, the Hero gives up and the Queen agrees to go outside if only to eat some proper food

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.
