Summary
Casita needs help - four years sooner than in the movie. But she knows that Alma is refusing to acknowledge the cracks out of blind fear and her successor is still too young to challenge her abuela. So she allows Mirabel to enter her family members' dreams, hoping that the girl will maybe help them cope with their various issues for a little while longer (with some "help" from Bruno's anthropomorphic rat dream theater troupe). And although Mirabel will not remember those dreams before the events of the movie happen, she will also learn a thing or two that will allow her to use her gift of embroidery to in minor ways change the gifts of the family for the better. And her relatives in return might be able to help her sort out some confusing feelings thanks to a - mostly - unwanted dream kiss by a family member in later chapters.
