Lan SiZhui hands him a bowl of bright red-orange noodles. "Your spicy, sir," he says cheerfully.
Wei WuXian sniffs it and his eyes immediately start watering. "Oh, you're my new favorite person," he tells Lan SiZhui. "Sorry Lan Zhan."
"I thought the rabbits were your best friends," Lan WangJi says mildly.
"They're all tied," Wei WuXian decides. "Anyway, they're my best friends. You were my favorite person. There's a difference. No matter now, you've been eclipsed. Hey, SiZhui, I'm your dad now."
Lan SiZhui laughs with pleased embarrassment. "Ahah, I figured it was going to happen someday," he says. Wei WuXian isn't sure what he means by that.

A silence blankets the air around them. Wei Wuxian closes his eyes and recaps the last couple of minutes: him asking (a little crudely) what happened, the juniors looking like Lan Wangji had just announced his deep hatred for rabbits, Lan Wangji himself looking like he’d just announced his deep hatred for rabbits, both of them asking the same question, and—
Realization seeps into Wei Wuxian's bones.
He looks up at Lan Wangji, and Lan Wangji is staring right back at him, and Wei Wuxian’s lips are still tingling, and Lan Wangji is still poking at his own.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Lan Wangji groans.
At the same time, Wei Wuxian murmurs, “Ah.”
(In which Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji investigate a curse and get cursed instead. Everything they try to say comes out of the other person's mouth. It can only go downhill from there.)

As soon as the fire faded from around them, Song Lan found a small flower in his hands. As he watched, one of the many petals flaked off and fell to the ground.
“It appears to be timed,” he said aloud. “When the petals are all gone, it will have ended. I hope that it's not a dangerous thing, and that it doesn't take too long. What do you think it may be, Xingchen?”
Xiao Xingchen swallowed and then said, thickly, “I think it makes us speak our thoughts aloud. Zichen, can you try to stop talking?”
Song Lan did, but as he had half-expected, he could not force his mouth to stay closed. He told Xiao Xingchen as such, and then lowered his voice so he was mumbling his thoughts under his breath.
(or: how do you keep from confessing when you've been cursed to speak your every thought out loud? you don't.)

Lan Zhan has not seen nor heard from Wei Ying in over a month when he returns to Yiling.
The town is no different to how Lan Zhan had left it, in the market stalls lining the streets and the tea house on the corner - he can almost see Wei Ying running at him while A-Yuan clutched at his leg, and closes his eyes against the flush of humiliation at how little he understood the child at first.
But Wei Ying won't be in town today: he is not the person Lan Zhan has come here to see - though he is the reason.
(Or - Wei Ying doesn't sleep - he avoids it at all costs. When he does sleep, it's interrupted by nightmares and terrors. Wen Qing worries about him, but he won't accept her help - so she does the only thing she can think of, and calls the only person more stubborn than Wei Ying.)

"You worry me," Lan WangJi tells him seriously. He puts his hands on Wei WuXian's knees for lack of a better place to put them. Wei WuXian places his own hands on top of Lan WangJi's, presumably to stop him from trying again to check his bandages.
"You don't need to worry," Wei WuXian says. "I swear I'm fine. I'll tell you if something feels off. You know me, I'm a huge crybaby whiner."
Lan WangJi frowns at him again. It's true that Wei WuXian can be a bit of a crybaby, but only about injuries that don't actually matter. When it's something important, like a ghost curse or a fundamentally unstable necromantic practice, Wei WuXian keeps it to himself. "Ridiculous," Lan WangJi tells him. Wei WuXian grins down at him.
