Summary
“Now what all of you ladies have been waiting for! Date with a dreamy firefighter! This year a firefighter from station 118 has volunteered. Come on up 118.”
“Hey everyone. I’m Firefighter Buckley and I’d love to go on a date with you.” It sounds scripted, because it’s utterly ridiculous, but also by the way he’s saying it. Eddie feels stupid for smiling at it.

Or: What if Buck is up for auction at the LAFD annual charity fundraiser. (AU Eddie isn’t a firefighter) -

Summary
During his second deployment Eddie met a young Evan near the army base in Afghanistan. He and Evan grew close during his SEAL unit’s month-long stay at the base. When their relationship finally reaches an explosive conclusion and they are nearly ready to admit their love for one another, Evan abruptly leaves.
During the years they spent apart, they have not been able to forget each other.
Eddie is honourably discharged from the military and joins the Los Angeles Fire Department after moving to LA with his son and now ex-wife. Here he begins a journey of healing and moving past what he lost in Afghanistan.
Then Bobby (Eddie’s captain at firehouse 118) announces a new recruit, who is an ex-navy, will be joining the 118 team soon. When that new recruit is a familiar blonde, one Eddie had not seen in 3 years, the tables turn on Eddie’s healing journey. Eddie is crushed when the blonde, who now goes by Buck seems to not remember their shared past.

Summary
Eddie despises the ugly green monster that’s nested deep in his ribcage. It claws at his bones and tries to force bites and barks from Eddie’s lips whenever Buck gives him one of his new, pained, shy smiles, or mentions book club, or says he needs to stop by his loft. With this one part of Buck being kept from him so purposefully, every moment of disconnect becomes a chasm in Eddie’s mind.
Or: Eddie's coming home from Texas with Chris, but Buck keeps going to book club, and he won't invite Eddie along. Eddie starts making some realizations.
Or: Eddie finds out there IS no book club.
