    At the end of the Breath of the Wild, Link and Zelda seal Ganon away... Or at least, they try. Ganon uses the Goddess's power to claw his way into another universe, one that's not equipped to deal with him or his power. Naturally, Link and Zelda have to follow, right into a world unlike anything they've ever imagined, with dozens, if not hundreds, of heroes, all working together to stop threats. Unfortunately, they can't stop this one.

    Or, in which Zelda tells off Batman, Link steals Wonder Woman's sword, and the two teenage heroes repeatedly make the heroes eat their words.

    I wrote this years ago and published on fanfic. net, and I saw it again and figured, yeah, ok I guess AO3 can have it too

    Today was supposed to be her day. It was supposed to be a relaxing day. No meetings with her father. No kneeling on the cold hard floor for her devotions. No standing in freezing waters to pray to a lifeless statue. And certainly, no cavaliers dogging at her heels.

    But, of course, not everything goes her way. Such was her luck.

    So, Zelda will ruin his day just as much as he ruined hers. Turnabout was fairplay, after all.

    “Sir Knight.” Zelda called, words hanging in the cool desert air. She only had a view of him from the corner of her eye looking over her shoulder, but even in the night she could see him turn his gaze to meet hers. His normal bright blue seemed dulled- tired. But he stubbornly kept to his duties, irking her to no end. “Come on, Hero. There won’t be any Yiga here this time. Join me.”

    In the complete opposite direction of what she’d wanted, Link instead shook his head, his grip on the Master Sword’s hilt squeezing tighter. Why, the nerve--!

    “I wanted—” Link starts. Zelda’s golden head snaps up at the sound of his voice, and he almost breaks, but somehow he gets the rest out. “To thank you. For yesterday. And to say sorry.”

    “Sorry?” She looks at his wounded shoulder incredulously. “Whatever for?”

    For your sleepless nights, he thinks. For the way you look at the Master Sword. For the bruises on your knees when you pray for too long and I don’t know how to make you stop. For letting your father treat you the way he does. For being such a coward.
