Or: Caine glitches during an update and accidentally opens up the cellar, letting out all the abstracted cast members that were supposed to stay locked away forever. Jax shows he cares more than he lets on.

"We gave you a chance!" Zooble yells, taking a step closer to Jax. "We've all been at your door for days stupidly trying to get you tell tell us anything! I even tried to help you at the beach, for f[%$!#]'s sake!" Their voice lowers. "You've had your chances, Jax. You f[%$!#]ing wasted them."

In the aftermath of the 'Escape the Circus' adventure, tensions come to a head. Caine tries to make everything right with the circus members, but his attempts to regain their trust cause an even deeper rift to form as Jax is separated from the group during a new immersive maze adventure.

Summary
Pomni is desperate to leave the circus. Jax is terrified of what leaving might mean.
The games don’t feel like games anymore. Something in the circus is shifting - and no one wants to say it out loud.
As the cast inch closer to abstraction, Pomni keeps finding herself drawn back to Jax. Again and again. And despite himself, Jax keeps letting her. Keeping her close to the things he won’t explain, and closer still to the parts of herself she’d rather ignore.
He tells himself it doesn’t matter. That it’s just entertainment. Just curiosity. Just another game.
But the distance between them never quite holds.
Forced together in Caine’s increasingly dangerous adventures, they form something fragile. Volatile. Built on denial, bad coping mechanisms, and a need neither of them wants to admit.
Because in a place designed to wear them down piece by piece, even the smallest moment of understanding starts to feel like something worth holding onto.

Now, he must contend with not only the painful aftermath of his near-abstraction and the confusing jumble of emotions that came with it, but also the consequences of EVERYTHING he's done and rediscovering who he even is...
Maybe abstraction would have been a mercy...
