Most people would have been annoyed after a while if their partner was constantly scolding, nagging, fussing, and redirecting them about what to do and what not to do, practically every single day.
"Bob, make sure to sit up straight; you’re slouching like a sad bear."
"No, Bob, you can’t do this, you’re not being accommodating right now to Cucumber!"
"Grab your jacket, Bob. It’s going to get cold later, I don’t care that it’s sunny now."
"How many times have I said it, Bob? Not like this, like this."Had it been anyone else on the team, they would have rolled their eyes and grumbled how they knew what they were doing before walking off. Well, aside from Alexei, who would laugh, call his daughter adorable, and then do whatever he wanted. It was Yelena’s way of caring, and Bob adored and lived for being fussed over by Yelena (only) because it showed she deeply cared for him...
Until she stopped.
Or: The four times Yelena was fiercely strict with Bob, followed by the four times she suddenly wasn't—nearly triggering his abandonment issues and panic attack as he spiraled into fears of their breakup.

It was what anchored her through everything in life, the very reason she still pushed herself through her training in the Red Room, when Natasha died, when she felt like she had no purpose anymore...until her soulmate's injuries ceased to exist that she realized she was all alone.
As far as Bob knew, he had never given much thought to soulmates.
He always felt her there, tugging at the little string that connected them and sending along happy thoughts.
However, he'd always ignore it. It wasn’t his number-one thought in his already chaotic childhood. Not until the day he started feeling emotions and getting injuries that weren’t his. And then, nothing else mattered but trying to find her when a plethora of scars started to appear on his body...even if it meant entering the Sentry Project that would heal all his scars by accident.

Mess is...a pretty good description for what's going on. Seventy-two hours ago Bucky did not have a group of mostly strangers and one almost-demigod making a mess of his Brooklyn apartment and he sure as hell wasn't the senior member of The New Avengers. It's been a long few days, but it says a lot when they haven't been the worst of his life.
