The answer slips easily out of his lips this time. “CC-2224.”
Boba Fett curses, harsh and quiet. His hands are shaking. “Kote?” he whispers, and his voice breaks on the word.
CC-2224 can hear screaming. The comms are silent, and the room is still, and no one else reacts to the noise. And yet… someone is screaming. He can hear it.
CC-2224 expected another routine stop at the Fortress Inquisitorius, staring unseeingly at identical grey walls while Vader tortured Jedi prisoners far below. He certainly didn’t think he'd be thrown back into his mind, back in time, and dragged along with five children determined to save the galaxy one Mandalorian at a time.

Summary
Bucky is so competent that it hurts my feelings is not a rational complaint to have about a person, and yet, after a year of being Captain America and partnering up with Bucky for the new and improved, post-Blip Avengers, that’s kinda how Sam’s feeling.
It’s not great. It maybe leads to Sam making some rash, ill-advised decisions like claiming he has a previously undisclosed superpower, and then getting caught in a web of lies when he ends up actually developing that surprisingly inconvenient superpower. Talking to birds had seemed like a harmless superpower, but it turns out that birds have a lot of opinions, and they don’t hesitate to tell Sam about them, especially when it comes to his supposedly subpar courting skills. Which is ridiculous, because Sam isn’t courting Bucky. Right?

Safe and sound, murderers walk the charred earth. Fancy themselves Gods, wash their humanity off when they pass the Colorado. Courier Six – Cassius as he calls himself here – is one of them.
Arcade tries to banish the memory of a man who could’ve been more than an instrument of Caesar’s iron fist. Should’ve. Would’ve, maybe, if things had been different. Neither stupid nor cunning, neither bloodthirsty nor hopeless enough. Just a coward in the flesh. Hollow, yes, empty. Only space for himself in the ashen remnants of Cassius’ heart.

Aerri smiles at the thought, and it makes Arcade want that reality to be truer than anything else. To exit his house in pyjamas and pick up his mail from an intact mailbox, waving goodbye to the friendly mailman as he makes his way through the neighbourhood.
