    Summary

“You want to talk to people about me?” Shane asked quietly.

There was something small and confused in the question. But Ilya was still furious and raw.

“Well I would,” he sneered, “if there was anything about you that was fucking interesting to talk about! It would be nice to not be so fucking bored and miserable!”

The second the words left his mouth, he watched the pain roll across Shane's features like a thousand fractures shattering through glass.

Ilya had seen Shane nearly break ribs. He had seen him miss game-winning shots, take hits that left bruises blooming purple and black across his skin. He had never seen this.

Shane closed his eyes for a long moment. He shook his head slightly, a tiny movement, then nodded once as if agreeing with something only he could hear. His face twisted briefly with a fresh wave of pain before he forced it to still.

    ---------

What if Shane and Ilya don't make up so easily after the Boxing Day fight? The Centaur's plane never malfunctions, so Shane never proposes. Instead, Ilya gives him an ultimatum on coming out and going public. It backfires spectacularly.

    Summary

“Marley.” Ilya says evenly, suddenly knowing he can actually breathe. He had a plan and he knew what he needed to do. And he couldn’t do it from the locker room bench. “If he is very injured, if he cannot play again, if he is very bad, I will kill you. I will kill you painfully.”
    Cliff gapes at him.

In which the hit that Cliff Marleau had on Shane Hollander goes a little different. For one, they’re in Boston. For another, Ilya realizes he might be panicking? Which is probably not something to do in the middle of a game. And, oh yeah, he just outed both himself and his not-boyfriend to an entire locker room of hockey players.

But that’s okay, because while Boston may be vicious, they do take care of their own. And they quickly realize that their captain’s happiness and willingness to stay with the Bears is tied to Shane Hollander. The solution is easy, they’ll just have to make Shane Hollander a Bear.

    Summary

“The other guys always teased that they liked each other, that they were banging in the locker room showers or were trying to get married or something. Hayden didn’t really get it. Shane was his best friend. Of course they spent a lot of time together. He was Hayden’s favorite person, probably. Or at least one of them.”

In which: there are revelations, negotiations, and new beginnings.

Or: The whole time Ilya and Shane were having their trysts, Shane and Hayden had something else going on. Neither of them could put a name to it, but apparently it’s not ‘best friend behavior’. Hayden just wants to know why Jackie never said anything.

(P.S. - this is a fic mostly following the establishment of Shayden’s QUEERPLATONIC RELATIONSHIP and the conflicts that arise thereafter. I cannot stress this enough. There is no romance between Shane and Hayden, but they’re more than ‘just friends’.)

    Summary

Shane Hollander has the highest hockey IQ in the NHL...and actively pretends he doesn't. He's already set himself apart in many ways, and he doesn't need "absolute hockey nerd" added to the list.

Keeping this secret gets harder as he stops hiding other parts of himself from those around him. He comes out to the Voyageurs (who don't take it very well), he starts hanging out with the Raiders (though no one has a clue about him and Ilya being anything beyond friends), and he feels as if he is losing parts of himself in the expectations others hold for him.

Ilya notices, and resolves to create a space that his boyfriend can thrive in, even if that means getting him the fuck out of Montreal.

Set during The Long Game, where Shane and Ilya have made their plan, Shane's parents know about their relationship, and they've started telling people they are friends, but before Ilya officially transfers to Ottawa. That's right folks, this is a "Boston steals Shane Hollander" fic. We need more, and I am here to contribute☺️🫰

    Summary

“I don’t want you to lie. That’s not who you are.”

Shane Hollander was a consummate liar, and the twisted irony of his mom’s baffled statement told him more than anything that he needed to tighten up. He was done with messing around, done with letting people down, done with indulgences that he couldn’t afford. The path before him was clear; all he had to do was walk it.

(This, he would acknowledge later, was the biggest lie of all.)

OR: Shane learned how to lie with his words and stillness. Unfortunately his body speaks a language of its own, and it's one Ilya Rozanov never needed a translator for. As Rozanov lets Shane get away with anything except lying to him, this causes problems until it solves them.
