"And now what ? Are you going to let me leave ?” Vergil asked, his tone icy.
“What? You can’t leave !” Dante exclaimed in shock.
“I can and I will. So? What are you going to do? Take my choice away again ? Then what ? Hold me prisoner in that shop of yours ? Should I call you “Master”, like Mundus ? Will you chain me to another wall, so that I can’t run away as well? ” Vergil scoffed, poison dripping from his words.
“You know what? Yeah, maybe I will. At least I’ll be sure that you won’t be going on another rampage.” Dante openly mocked him. “ You got any other kid to mangle?”
“Then let’s settle this once and for all.” The blue twin hissed.
“Fine. One last duel, but I have a condition.” Dante smirked. “If you win, I won’t interfere with your life ever again. Whatever you do, you’ll have my blessing.”
“And if I lose ?” The blue twin asked, his razor sharp focus on Dante.
“I’ll take the Yamato and you’ll become my slave. I’ll be free to do whatever I wish to you, and you won’t ever be free again.” The hunter hoped that the fear of captivity would be enough to snap him out of his rage.
“Fine.” Vergil whispered and Dante felt his blood turn cold. Shit.

“What, did you need a breather?” His tone was as mocking as ever, but small pants came out between his words.
“You should be asking yourself that.” He deflected the bullet shot at him, lower than the normally precise aim. “You seem to be getting tired.”
Dante gets hurt in the Arkham fight, leading to him and Vergil being stuck in the demon realm together.

Summary
Dante rolled his shoulders. “Sounds like a plan. When do we start?” Vergil hesitated. Just for a second. But that second was enough.
Dante saw it, the brief flicker in his brother’s usually composed expression. Vergil had never cared about their rest schedule before. He always treated it like a waste of time, an inconvenience. Yet here he was, strategizing for extra downtime. It wasn’t for himself. Vergil was watching him closely. Dante clenched his jaw. He could practically hear what Vergil wasn’t saying.
You’re slowing us down.
I’m giving you a chance to rest before you become a liability.
Don’t make me leave you behind.
A cold dread settled in Dante’s stomach. He forced himself to laugh, shaking off the unease. “Yeah, yeah. Sure. Let’s do it.” Vergil narrowed his eyes but didn’t push further. Dante turned away first, flexing his fingers. His throat still burned. His limbs still ached. But now, there was something else inside him, something worse.
Fear.

Summary
An awfully vague mission description causes Nero and Dante to be gravely underprepared for a fight. Instead of facing off against some weak lesser demons, they are greeted by a strange type of Angelo that even Dante wasn't sure existed. When the demon outsmarts them, Nero is prepared to protect Dante at any cost. Even if the cost is his own life. He's not exactly thrilled when Vergil is the one to show up at the last second to turn the tide and allow them to escape.

Or: Nero takes the bullet for Dante and Vergil saves the day and finally tries to be a good father - with mild success.
