Summary
After Will Byers returns to Hawkins after living in California for five years, his life turns upside down. Going back to his past life — a life he thought was long gone — comes with great struggle Will tries to convince everyone (himself included) it’s just some seasonal depression that’s going to wear off once fall is over.
Turns out it’s anything but a seasonal depression, as Will begins to feel like he’s going insane — feeling like he’s haunted by the ghost of his past, struggling to eat anything as food looks like poison, and with a good night’s sleep becoming a thing of the past.
And it certainly doesn’t help that Mike Wheeler keeps staring at him from across the hallway like a creep. He keeps staring instead of talking to Will, instead of making things right after ghosting him years ago.
Because despite once being inseparable, now Will sees Mike as nothing but a cowardly stranger, who didn’t have the guts to write him one last letter saying he didn’t want to keep in touch anymore. Or at least that’s Will’s point of view.

Tommy was fairly certain bedrock was unbreakable, and even if it wasn't, there definitely wouldn't be a vast, unending void underneath that is actually a portal to a perfect world.
Grian was fairly certain things were only supposed to go in the Boatem Hole, not come out, and even if something did, it would be diamonds or a reward for their sacrifices or something that wasn't a random teenage boy.
To be fair, neither of them had put too much thought into it before. Maybe that excuses the reaction they had when their expectations were exceeded.

If you haven’t heard of it, seriously go check it out, it’s amazing. Essentially, after breaking out of prison, Dream fulfills his promise to kill and revive Tommy over and over again. When he’s done, Tommy isn’t the same. His hair is pure white from being revived so many times, he doesn’t speak, and he no longer reacts to anything, even pain.

They have to destroy each other. Nothing will ever end unless they destroy each other. Joel’s not thinking about the game. He’s not thinking about winning. He’s thinking about eating. Ravaging. Consuming. Devouring. He’s thinking about finally putting an end to this sick feeling of familiarity. He’s thinking about destroying and being destroyed. He’s thinking about what it means to love and what it means to lose. They’re the same thing, aren’t they? You can’t have one without the other.

“Childe,” Zhongli said and his voice was stern enough to have the younger man look up at him in surprise before he continued, “no matter what we find there I would not have you suddenly jumping in to things that require a clear head.”
“You mean like any random Abyss portals.”
“Among other things, but yes. We are a team. We will face whatever we find together. Agreed?”
Choosing to pick at the food before them, Childe didn’t respond immediately. But of course, Zhongli had the patience of immovable stone and on this he seemed willing to wait as long as he needed to. We are a team he’d said. Childe had never been much for teams but with Zhongli? He looked up from the food to see warm golden eyes watching him with calm expectation. So Childe had to smile and this time it was entirely genuine. “Agreed.” He leaned into the other man then and offered him another piece of sunsettia. “I wouldn’t have anyone else.”
Zhongli chuckled at that, “I certainly would hope not.”
