I—” he pauses, eyes shuddering closed for a moment before he opens them with a well-worn sigh. “Don't know where I know her from but I'm thinking-”
“That was probably the point,” Yelena finishes, accent thick and gaze wistful. She turns her eyes to Darcy. “Weird how government agencies don't want you to remember their secrets, right?”

Summary
Pietro arches an eyebrow at him. “Tired old man? Should we pump you full of caffeine?” he asks through a mouthful of food.
Contemplating powering through, Steve knows the reason Pietro couldn't find coffee earlier is because he doesn't have any. As if hearing his thoughts, Pietro stares at him with an arched eyebrow. Finally Steve relents. “Yeah, we should probably just head over to Buck’s,” he says.
Pietro raises an eyebrow. “‘Boned’?” he asks flatly.
Rolling his eyes, Steve corrects him, “‘Bone Dry’.”
“Why the fuck would he call it that?” he asks.
Blinking slowly at Pietro a few times, Steve pauses to collect his thoughts before answering. “Because, ‘The Government Mutilated My Body and Turned Me Into a Killing Machine’ was too long to fit on his tax forms,” he says.
Pietro nods. “That’s a good reason,” and there’s no hint of irony anywhere in his voice. When he cracks a half smile Steve let's out a bark of laughter. The kid’s quick, he’ll give him that.

“Darcy–” Steve says, damn near panting.
Darcy shakes her head. “Don't wanna talk about it,” she says, dipping back to kiss him again.
Unfortunately Steve's hands on her rib cage press her back once more. “Darcy,” he says more firmly this time. Sighing, Darcy begins to stand. Only Steve's hands stay firm and she suddenly realizes they're not about to have the conversation she initially thought.
Oh. “Oh,” she verbalizes and Steve ducks his head.
“Yeah, so we have to talk about it,” he says to the floor. “Because I'm falling for you so hard I can barely see straight.”
At that Darcy tips Steve's head up by his chin and looks him in the eye. “Definitely not alone there, bud,” she says before her lips are back on him and Steve is breathing her in.
Guess I have a type, Darcy thinks.
As soon as that thought crosses her mind, Darcy is pulling away from Steve in tears. "Oh god, Darcy, I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you?"
Darcy shakes her head vigorously. "No! No," Darcy says with a gasp. "You're just–" Not him. She doesn't finish the sentence. They both know.
He sits with her on the kitchen floor for hours while she cries...

Summary
Getting himself a drink from the bartender, Bucky settles on a stool that allows him to watch her from the corner of his eye. Thirty minutes into sipping his drink, Bucky watches her collect her belongings. She throws her jacket over the crook of her elbow, snags her bag up in her fingertips, and pulls the darts from the board before dislodging the remaining dart from her hair and walking over to---him.
Bucky thought she was returning the darts to the bartender before she left. Instead she came to a stop at his side, dropping her bag on the bar.
"You gonna keep creeping on me or you gonna ask me to go home with you?"
Bucky's eyebrows rise toward his hairline, gaze fixed on her determined reflection in the mirror behind the bottles of liquor. He tosses the last of his drink back with a gloved hand before turning to look her in the eye.
"Join me for a nightcap?"
"Absolutely."

"Five years," he whispers softly, starting to stroke his hand up and down her covered calf.
Now Darcy sniffles and shakes her head. "You didn't mea--" she begins.
"Yes," Bucky interrupts, voice still soft. "Didn't mean to leave. But it happened. And you didn’t think we’d come back." Tears slide down Darcy's face, a new trend in her emotional states. Bucky shifts next to her and a thumb is brushing liquid from her cheek. "How long?" he asks.
Darcy hesitates before answering and Bucky squeezes her ankle again. "First time was a few months after," she rasps, fresh tears coming down her face.
Bucky takes a deep breath. "We only knew each other for--"
"Five months," she finishes for him.
A genuine chuckle worms its way through Bucky's lips. "Stevie isn't exactly the issue here, is he?"
Darcy whimpers, her hand is clutching his left forearm. "Yes," she says fiercely. "He is."
Bucky's lips press into a thin smile. "No, doll, he's not."

After that Christmas that made him realize he wasn’t just affecting himself by running away for months and years at a time, Shawn isn’t really surprised when they all end up back in bed together months later. He wasn’t expecting it, wouldn’t let himself hope for it, but it feels as easy as it’s ever been to follow Cory and Topanga where they lead, wherever they’ll have him.
It’s been years since they last did this, and even that time had been years after he’d told himself it was the last time, the natural end to things, and found that it was easier to make that resolution than it was to follow it.

Except there is no next move; the Winter Soldier is staring down at him, eyes wide and face pale, panting harshly where he had barely even been breathing heavily before. His knee is digging into Steve's belly, made heavier with more than just his bodyweight by his other foot, pushing against the ground. His metal arm is crammed painfully in Steve's shoulder, and his human hand is still clenched around the tesseract. "Steve?" he whispers, shocky and pale, eyes glassy chasms in his face surrounded by shadow.
