  4. Summary

He holds the side of her face, “Don’t feel like talking to me Mama?”. She licks her lips without thinking, and Rio beams all over. When he smiles like that, it’s like he’s the sun, warming her up down to her toes. Rio closes the space between them, kissing her softly at first. When she kisses him back, he guides his tongue into her mouth and the kiss goes deeper and deeper. She’s got her arms wrapped around his head and he has arms wrapped around her back, lifting her to meet him. They are both trying to close any distance between them as much as possible. He pulls away when her phone buzzes in her briefcase, but nuzzles her nose with his. He’s leaning his head on her forehead when he breaks the silence, “I’m glad you left those pearls Elizabeth”, he breathes deeply through his nose before holding her closer to him. “And I’m glad you didn’t walk away from everything when you had the chance”. Beth can only smile, lost in being so close to him, overwhelmed at being able to be so close to him again.
She decides she has to say something, and needs to say something before the stampede of Hawks bust through the office. “I could never walk away from you Christopher”.

    Summary

    “Do you hate me?"

Zuko wanted to say yes. It was the obvious answer. Aang was the Avatar. Aang was the enemy. Aang was the one thing keeping him from returning home, from returning to his father’s good graces. He should hate Aang fiercely and openly, and he should have set that entire clearing on fire to get to him and capture him once and for all.

"No,” he said, and was surprised to find it was the truth.

OR What if Zuko and Aang talked at the end of "The Blue Spirit"?

Aang is not twelve. This IS a rewrite of the show, but it diverges more in the Book 3 chapters. Please read the notes before the prologue!

    Summary

In the last ten years since the war, Zuko and Aang developed an intimacy too tender, too fragile, and too important to name. Now that Zuko is of traditional marrying age and under pressure to find an appropriate wife and secure an heir; Aang finally opens the door to the unspoken between them.

Originally written for Flash Fic Friday, this story took on a life of it's own. More chapters to come!

    ~

When he parted the curtains, Zuko was sitting cross-legged on a cushion with a cup of jasmine tea cradled in his palm. His bare chest framed by the deep maroon of his silk robe. He was less surprised than Aang expected him to be.

Standing up and dropping the porcelain cup to the low table beside him, he said, “Aang, what are you doing? You shouldn’t be here,” it was weak, the hollowness of his conviction echoed loudly. And, it wasn’t even true. Aang had accompanied him for tea many times in his personal chambers, and at much later hours than this. It was the air between them that had changed. The two of them alone together felt fresh with impropriety.
