Zuko Sozin needs a place where he can hide from the burden of carrying his last name. He did not expect that the perfect college house (famous for its chaotic dynamics, game nights and cheap wines) would come with Toph Beifong.
She is blunt, arrogant, has zero patience for the "governor's son's" defensive politeness, and loves to bicker with absolutely everyone she knows.
To Zuko, she's a daily test of patience, intimidating, blunt force of nature who has zero time for his nonsenses.

They cross paths, and after working with Avatar Aang to defeat Fire Lord Ozai, they all go their separate ways, Zuko, now the Fire Lord, and Toph, still a runaway. They will cross paths once more.
