Summary
2040. The AI Revolution is in full swing. Hollywood is gutted, and while most of the stars have departed for greener pastures, the heart of animation — the Toons — are now packed into a dense square of land along Hollywood Boulevard. This is the Black Hole, 21st Century America’s answer to the Walled City, a packed, stinking mass of destitute souls.
Crimes inside the Black Hole go unpunished — the LAPD, privatised by the AI moguls in all but name, don’t go in there. When something needs investigating, the Toons turn to a shrinking number of private investigators. But the money is poor, and more and more of them leave.
Franklin Fukuyama is one of the last, barely clinging to solvency in his office on Fairfax Avenue. When Mabel Pines enters his office to report the disappearance of her wife, he expects a routine investigation — but will instead sink into his own black hole, one that will bring him face to face with the end of the world…

It's a normal day for Connie when she gets the call - Steven is trapped in a tower, a monster preventing anyone from going in to save him, and Beach City is slowly being overgrown with roses. Thankfully, Connie is pretty sure she's heard this one before.
Now, if she can just stop the bitterness from creeping in, if she can stop fantasizing about adults giving them apologies, if she could just get over how unfair it is that Steven is captured and the gems still think it's his fault, maybe she can keep it together long enough to be the knight in shining armor she's supposed to be.
