    Summary

Surviving the Riders Quadrant is hard enough, but surviving it while keeping a massive secret? That’s just plain reckless.

Nyx Greycastle—well, that’s the name she’s using—has spent her life surrounded by dragons, but pretending to be just another first-year cadet at Basgiath War College is proving more difficult than she expected. Between sadistic instructors, bloodthirsty rivals, and an annoyingly handsome wingleader who keeps looking at her like he knows something, staying under the radar is impossible.

Oh, and there’s also the minor issue of not dying before Threshing.

With secrets, enemies, and an ever-growing number of dumb decisions piling up, Nyx is in for the deadliest three years of her life. But if she wants to claim a dragon—and live long enough to turn the tide of a secret war—she’ll have to prove she’s more than just a name.

Because in the Riders Quadrant, survival isn’t guaranteed.

    It’s earned.

    Summary

Elara Sorrengail has always been the rebellion's favorite sunshine girl.

Born Tyrrish, raised between Aretia and the Navarre, she grew up with three dangerous boys at her side-Bodhi Durran, Garrick Tavis, and Xaden Riorson. One of the was her best friend. Two of them became her lovers. One of them graduated and became her secret husband.

But when the rebellion fell, Elara was torn away from them all.
Now she's back at Basgiath, marked, deadly, and done hiding.

    Her arrival sparks a storm:
-Xaden is the Wing Leader who can't afford to break.
-Garrick is the second-in-command who still bleeds for her.
-Bodhi, her best friend, and chaotic other half.
-Violet, her cousin, bonds the dragon whose mate belongs to Xaden... which means Elara's husband has to protect Violet to protect the dragons. (Yeah. Awkward is an understatement.)

But Elara didn't come to Basgiath to play nice.

She came to reclaim her men, survive the parapet, and earn her place in the Riders Quadrant-not as a Sorrengail, but as a Riorson.

    I, Aysel Bardin, failed Threshing.

It was almost two years ago now, but the jury’s still out on whether it was worth it.

I did first-year—all of the politics, death, idiots, dragons—twice. Being joined by the children of the rebellion was the only reason I made it through the second time, which means I should be grateful for the unforeseen variable that was Xaden Riorson. The variable that turned distance into loyalty, logic into want, control into chaos, and survival into a group project nobody asked for. The team effort worked for us last year—but we have two more to go, and I can already see where the equation ends.

I've done the math. Falling for Xaden Riorson will ruin everything—including me. I know better.

Unfortunately, knowing better has never quite managed to stop me.

    Chapter 14
OMG!!!!!!! That's a cliffhanger that's painful to have to wait for the next chapter.

    Chapters **8** !!!!!!!!!!!!!! & 10, 11 SMUT
    ==================================
Sgaeyl, Xaden's Dragon (Big Echo) & Ace (Little Echo)

"You should be grateful none of her friends bonded you, Little Echo."

    This fucking dragon.

"Why don't you worry about finding the other Tauri instead of worrying about me? I'll make you and Xaden matching I-killed-a-prince patches if you burn him to ash."

"If only that would solve our problems rather than creating more." I think this may be the first time I've heard Sgaeyl sound wistful—not that I have a large sample size with which to compare it, but it does boost my ego nonetheless.

Specifically, whatever brand of stupidity passes for confidence in my head. "So much for ruthless, Big Echo."

    (...)
    Xanden to Ace:

"Are you giving my dragon orders, Red?"

I cock my head to the side, curious as to how that conversation went down in his head. "What makes you ask that?"

"She said she was"—his chin dips, words slowed as if reciting Sgaeyl's verbatim—"'off to make a prince shit his pants as a consolation for being unable to earn an I-killed-a-prince patch.'"

    Glorious.

Sounds even better coming from her.

I bite my lip to suppress my smile. "She certainly has a way with words."

"Typically I'd agree, but something tells me those were yours." In the cover of a shadow, his pinky wraps around mine.

"Sgaeyl doesn't take orders from anyone," I remind him. "She might take amazing suggestions, though."

    (...)

I try to find patterns in the stars like Xaden did during Land Navigation, but I have no idea what I'm looking for. My mom always talked about the moon and the moon was always there to talk about.

    The stars aren't.

For the minutes or hours you look, they’re fixed, but everything around them—under you—is shifting. Axis tilt. Rotation. You fall asleep that night, and the next night they’re somewhere else entirely. Or gone completely.

Even though it was all true to begin with. They don’t actually move more than their own existance slowing burning themselves up.

That’s what makes navigation both brilliant and stupid. You’re trusting something that only stays constant if you understand the world underneath it. If you don’t…you drown. People don’t get lost in the woods or at sea, because the stars move. They drown because they didn’t do the calculation. Worse, they trusted someone else to do it.

    (...)

Xaden tells me I should try to take other's emotions so I can learn to sort them from my own. Garrick tells me I should try to take other's emotions so I can learn to sort them from my own. I tell them I will, until I'm looking at someone and all I can think of is some parasitic fiend. Like that vampire in our current book club read—only, instead of blood, this one sucks out their emotions until they're a shell of themselves making the whole scene far less erotic.

It's ironic, really, considering how many times I have, and still do, wish for a lobotomy. At least some reprieve from my emotions.

    (...)

"I don't blame either of you," I tell him, pulling my ticklish palm from his teasing fingers.

"Blame doesn't have anything to do with jealousy," Xaden counters, pulling my hand back to his knee and beginning to trace the back of my hand instead.

I continue my point anyway. "You were hopped up on dragon-sized hormones. And you're very bite-able."

His fingers hover over my skin for one moment. "Bite-able."

    "Bite-able."

    "What does that mean?"

It means that far too often I find myself watching the sweat trailing down the columns of muscle, or the way his relic shifts and body shift with each movement, and I have to bite my own lip to resist sinking my teeth into him and leaving my own mark. I shrug again. "I'm not upset that she wanted to bite you or that you wanted her to."

    Summary

    I, Aysel Bardin, failed Threshing.

Entering the Rider's Quadrant wasn't about glory—it was about holding onto the only scrap of family I had left. Obviously, when both of your parents are dead and your sister is on the front lines, the logical path is eighteen inches of stone and a two-hundred foot drop to certain death. I thrived. But three months, a hundred and forty-four dragons, and one godsforsaken valley later, I'm reminded of how this world actually works.

There's no choice but to do it again—politics, death, idiots, dragons—this time beside the children of the rebellion. They're as dangerous to the quadrant as it is to them, though they can't be deadly if they're on my squad. Codex is supposed to be clear about things like that.

But I miss a variable. One variable that somehow turns distance into loyalty, logic into want, control into chaos, and survival into a group project nobody asked for. After that, the math just stops working.

Codex says you can't kill your squadmate. Codex never took “falling for Xaden Riorson will ruin everything—including you” into account.

    Chapter ?? & 37 & 39, & 42, SMUT
    ****************
    I nod at Malin.

    She grins.

    And then we detonate.

We launch straight into what can only be described as the Navarre’s worst victory dance. There’s no rhythm. No coordination. Just flailing limbs and unhinged joy.

Malin windmills her arms like she’s trying to take flight, while I kick my feet out in a chaotic little shuffle that would surely get us both detained if anyone ever saw it. We spin in opposite directions, nearly colliding, then latch onto each other’s elbows to avoid crashing into the wardrobe.

Silent screaming. Full-body wiggling that Garrick would greatly appreciate. Zero dignity.

And probably my mother rolling in her grave. If she had one.

Malin throws her head back, shoulders bouncing with laughter we’re desperately trying not to let out, and I mirror her—hips swaying, hands in the air like I’m praising the gods.

I’m not. But it is fun to do.

We end up hopping side-to-side in anything but unison, our reflections in the mirror looking absolutely feral when the knock comes at the door.

    We freeze.

Xaden goes utterly still. “You weren't what he wanted in bed?” His voice is more dangerous than I have heard it be in a year. “He saw how beautiful you were and didn’t want his hands on you every second of the day?
