Summary
After the Metaverse collapsed, everyone moved on. Not Akira, though. What was Akira without Joker, without his arsenal of masks, without the purpose that had made his unsatisfying life whole? His parents despise him, his hometown believe he's a murderer, and Shido's conspiracy follows him everywhere he goes. There had always been more to Akira than Joker, though. Futaba pulls out her phone and opens the MetaNav. The troubled expression on her face disappears, replaced by mischief. “You might wanna sit down for this.” She doesn't wait for him to sit before activating the MetaNav's voice recognition. “Akechi Goro, Detective Prince."
“Candidate found.”
With the successful execution of their plan to change Niijima Sae's heart and deceive Akechi Goro, the Phantom Thieves have overcome their most dangerous obstacle yet—but one obstacle still remains. Akechi has yet to let the name of his boss and their ultimate target slip. The Thieves are at a loss for how to proceed, until one Sakura Futaba reveals a game-changing discovery that may unravel the secrets they seek.

Summary
Goro Akechi returns to life six months after the fall of Maruki’s reality, spit out by the sea of souls onto a remote island off the coast of Japan. He brings back with him an ancient fairytale forest haunted by the ghosts of everyone he’s ever killed. And he is the only one who can free them from imprisonment in the woods. Instead of destroying everything inside, Goro chooses to stay. Wandering the forest, he completes impossible task after impossible task in the hopes of saving all his ghosts.
When Ren Amamiya learns Akechi survived he becomes focused on the challenge he believes has been thrown down - to find him and drag him back to Tokyo. But for Ren discovering where Akechi has gone proves to be its own impossible task, one that might unravel him.

Was. It's useless now that Akechi knows, but Akira smiles as he speaks. He's cornered himself, mate in one, but it won't be the first time he's died. At worst he'll restart his probation again, back in April.
At best, they'll move to step two of his real plan, tearing apart Shido's conspiracy one crooked heart at a time until Akechi is as free as his past allows and resoundingly not dead. It'd be easy to resent the world for demanding Akira save it, but at least it's had the decency to let him save his friends along the way. All of them, even the one who only makes the job harder.
