    Becoming a eunuch wasn't Shang Qinghua's first choice, but it was better than living on the streets. Still, he wanted to avoid the uncomfortable process if at all possible. With a few clever tricks, Shang Qinghua lied about his status as a eunuch and got himself a job in the imperial palace, with his genitals still intact. As a man who only wants to sleep with other men, it isn't hard for him to hide the truth. He would never be interested in looking at the concubines in an improper way, and all of the men in the rear palace are eunuchs themselves. So, celibacy isn't particularly difficult for Shang Qinghua.

    He's of low rank, and practically everyone treats him like a useless servant with half a brain, but that is exactly how Shang Qinghua likes it. Hiding his assets is the best way to ensure he never comes under scrutiny. However, when Shang Qinghua accidentally catches the eye of the crown prince Mobei-jun, he risks having his secret exposed, and his life brought to an unfortunate end.

    Came for Moshang, blown away by the little svort story hidden in this fic.

    Definitely worth a read, if not for the ship, then for that short story alone.

    I wish there was more, but the ending was very satisfying <3

    Mo Ran is Chu Wanning's bodyguard, who he has to protect from assasins.
    The whole thing is told from MR's POV.

    It's so well written and it's one of the few times I didn't feel like skipping inner monologues of a character, maybe because it DID feel very authentic to the character and the overall flow of the story. Mo Ran's whole emotional Arc through every chapter was so well done and you could literally see how experiences formed his view of CW.
    His insight in how CW is perceived by others helps make his gradual transition into being in love a lot more believable. He's also a somewhat unreliable narrator, because he is very biased in his feeling towards CW - be it positive or negative - but he somehow manages to catch himself shortly afterward and ultimately corrects his view. I wish there was a version of this story from POV because I'm DYING to see what CW's perception of his shennannigans was :)

     

    The author did a very good job and I was tempted to rec this to my non fanfic reading book club friends but we all know not to mix your reading circles - so I'll remain the only one stuck knowing how great this was.

    If you like a story where strangers become lovers, slowly but graduately getting to know each other and becoming better for it, then this is definitely a fic you shouldn't miss out on!
    10/10 would Kudo into infinity if I could.
