Tom sucked in a sharp breath.
And then, it happened.
A shift in the atmosphere. The hair on the back of his neck rose.
Something moved.
Before he could react, an iron grip clamped around his wrist. His world twisted sideways as a brutal force yanked him forward. He barely had time to inhale before something hard crashed against his skull. White-hot pain exploded behind his eyes as his knees buckled. His vision flickered – shoes, pavement, a glimpse of Bill’s widening eyes.
Someone else had him too. His brother staggered, an arm flailing, before vanishing into the stranger’s grasp.
And then,
Nothing.

“Where are you going?”
“To the arena, Hollander. We are playing a game in three hours.”
“That’s tomorrow, Rozanov,” Hollander says, smirking like Ilya might be fucking with him and he wants to make sure he’s in on the joke. He looks behind and around him. “Um, can I come inside?”
“Hollander, we have game today. You were here yesterday.”
Hollander is striding toward his kitchen, looking over his shoulder at Ilya like he’s getting tired of the joke. “Very funny. I was in Montreal yesterday, Rozanov.”
“Hollander.” Ilya goes to stand in front of him. Hollander’s eyes flicker up and down his body the way that Ilya usually craves, but is rather unwelcome right now. “Today is Thursday. Game is today. Yesterday, you came to my house. We ate tuna melts, watched Buffalo game. Then, you left.”
“Rozanov, it’s Wednesday morning. And I’ve never been to your house before.”
“Hollander…”
“Look at your phone if you don’t believe me.”
Ilya snorts like a bull and pulls his phone out of his pocket, swipes down on the screen to look at the date.
Wednesday, November 9th.

Four years ago, Shane Hollander suffered a career-ending injury after getting hit by Marlow on the ice. Despite Ilya’s best efforts to reach out, he never hears from Shane again. Nor does anyone as Shane Hollander disappears from the public eye. Complete radio silence.
That is, until Ilya receives a call from his agent, asking if he is willing to ‘say a couple of nice words on camera about Shane Hollander’. Why? Oh. Because he will be inducted in the MHL Hall of Fame in three weeks. And said Canadian golden boy will likely be there.
