Summary
Kaeya knew many myths. He’d heard of countless stories, some proven to be truth, many remaining as they always were, Myths. In the lower hums of passing travellers he'd heard of Mermaids and Sirens, almost human if not for the shimmer of scales and writhing of water. He'd heard how they'd fled Fontaine hundreds of years ago, how Barbatos had granted them asylum, how they'd returned the favour with gentle seafoam.
Yet despite the stories, whispers still spoke of how sirens lurked and lured unsuspecting fishermen to their doom. With clawed hands and sharp teeth. It had always been just that, stories, myths to keep children away from the waters edge.
Kaeya had not met a myth before.
//Or; Watching his fathers back, no one finds him among the grapevines for hours as the rain worsens. Walking in a vain attempt to find something, someone... Kaeya falls, the Ocean bellow a vast doom the boy never could have expected to find salvation in. A strange creature with red hair and fins and scales and claw pulling him from a watery grave...

“...when was the last time you saw father?”
“This morning. We all had breakfast together.”
“Uh-huh…and what’s the date?”
“March 1st, 1063,” Diluc answered without missing a beat. Kaeya’s arms dropped to his side, and his skin grew increasingly pale.
“That’s—that’s not possible.”
“Why?” Kaeya remained silent. Diluc took a shaky step forward. “Why, Kaeya?” The look in that crystalline eye almost scared Diluc. He’s not sure why, but something told him he really didn’t want to know the answer to that question.
“Because father died on April 30th, 1058. He’s been dead for almost five years.”
*****Two versions of Diluc end up in each others' worlds. One where Crepus never died, and one that we know all too well.
