Summary
The story of how with the change of the pigment of Michael's hair, comes a change in Luke's attitude towards him. The mere colour of it isn't what causes the change in emotions, it just easier to think about how much has actually changed, when you compare it to something as trivial as the colour of his hair.
It all starts when they are merely innocent five year olds, but by the time they are eighteen, many things -including hair dye preferences- have changed.or luke finds his feelings towards michael changing as often as the colour of michaels hair does.

Yes, Luke thought, roll your eyes. Look, it’s yet another teenager obsessed with a boy band, who they think they will actually meet. It was pathetic, how he put all of his happiness on three boys of his own age who didn’t even know of his existence; he knew it was. But it didn’t stop his face lighting up when the thousandth picture of one of the three boys popped up on his timeline. And it didn’t stop him religiously listening to their music until he was sure the beats of their songs thumped along to the pounding of his heart. A horrible, all-consuming pounding that Luke felt fill ever part of his body, burning through each muscle and bone.

So when Calum stopped walking, it was inevitable that Michael would crash into his- admittedly wide, and did he mention muscular- back. Calum turned around, and he really needed to stop smirking because Michael was going to actually faint. “Steady there, princess.” The way the pet name rolled of Calum’s tongue, and the way his calloused hands clasped Michael’s shoulders to indeed steady him was intoxicating, more so than the alcohol he had consumed. Michael did wish he had left his leather jacket on the blanket so Calum was actually touching his pale skin. But he was already weak at the knees from being called Princess, so he didn’t think he’d even be able to cope with skin-on-skin contact. “Just thought I’d let you know your tiara’s falling.”
“’S not a tiara. ‘S a flower crown.” Michael mumbled into his shirt.
or Michael doesn't realise he likes being called Princess, and Calum isn't as cocky as he makes out to be

He heard me, Michael thought. Calum’s eyes were far too open and awake to be because he had just woken up. For how long he had been awake he didn’t know, but for not long Michael hoped. The warmth of his skin tried to warm the trembling of his small hands, which were shaking in a way similar to the effects of shivering. But despite Calum’s warmth, Michael’s hand still shook.
“Are we still pretending?” Calum whispered, nose bumping the others’ for a fraction of a second.
or Calum is drunk, and in such a state he doesn't realise he just asked the boy he was in love with, to effectively 'be in love with him' just for the night

Summary
Weird to use the analogy that music so rowdy and thumping and bass-y, would be compared to the slight whisper of a friend directly hushed into your ear. But if silence could be deafening, then music loud enough to leave your ears ringing, could quieten the churning and pulsating rhythm of the word around you.
or Michael has a dog practically leap into his lap, and in any other circumstance he would have shoved it off, but under these circumstances, he couldn't be happier. The dog's owner seams to agree.

Michael smirks, like he's realizing how pissed Luke is, and it just makes Luke even madder, makes him want to do something, anything that'll wipe the fucking smile off his face. He leans in slowly, Michael's smile falling as his grows, and then they're chest to chest, breath hitting Michael's lips. He waits for Michael's mouth to fall open before he leans in further, teasingly brushing their lips together before moving his mouth to Michael's ear.
"Don't call me that." He growls and walks away, not looking back.
OR// Luke hates being called 'twink' and it turns out that Michael refusing to stop calling him it is probably the best thing that's ever happened to him.

“You can’t what?”
It sounds as though she’s stifling a sob. “Get close enough.”
He sighs and it’s louder than he’d intended. “Betts,”
“They wouldn’t let me touch you,” she chokes. “I just wanted to hold your hand and they wouldn’t let me.”
