Summary
All Kazuhira Miller wanted was a normal life with his semi-normal boyfriend, Ahab, and their semi-normal dog, DD. His entire view of reality is crushed in an instant when a man in his workplace is attacked and killed by another person. With a vague plan in mind, Kaz, Ahab, and other survivors find themselves constantly on the move in search of a safe place. The end goal is to meet up with Ahab's brother in Dallas, Texas, but when each day is a struggle to survive, there is no telling if they will make it. Food dwindling and energy waning, their chances are slim.
Led by John, Eva and Adam are taken across the country to meet with the only other people they know, in the hopes that they are still alive. John must bear the guilt of what he has done, and ensure that his family survives. Wary and unsure who they can and cannot trust, it becomes harder and harder with each passing day to tell friend from foe. Perhaps, in the end, it is not the roaming monsters that they need be most cautious of.

Summary
The sand below Kaz shrank away all at once. He tipped over, and his face smashed into the rough, hard-packed dirt. Kaz’s fingers clawed at the dirt, trying to find purchase as he felt the waves lapping at his legs. If he wasn’t careful, he was going to be dragged out to sea.
When Kaz came to, the sun lit Snake from behind. Snake sat over Kaz, smoothing back his hair and whispering soft words. Kaz’s eyes focused and unfocused, Snake’s image blurring and shimmering like a mirage in the desert.
Kaz blinked, and suddenly Snake’s image was crystal-clear. Kaz furrowed his eyebrows. It must have been a mistake.
Kaz’s hand traveled to his head, pushing aside Snake’s fingers. His forehead was throbbing, and his entire face felt swollen, but he couldn’t feel a bump or a scrape. Kaz glanced up at Snake, only now realizing that everything was tinted brown from his shades. Kaz frowned, hadn’t he been wearing his black ones when he met Snake on the beach?

Kazuhira is used to the daily ins and outs of weirdos that come through the all-you-can-eat buffet that he works at. When a blonde lady and her two sons walk through the door, Kaz wasn't sure what he was expecting but it certainly wasn't to make friends with said sons and their father.

“It’s simple, Kaz,” he began. “You can stay here and rot in Alaska, or you can come with me, where your talents are most useful. You could be a C.O. again. We both know you’re good at it. You command respect, and you can keep troops in order.”
“You want me to do what you’re too lazy to do,” Kaz grumbled. “I’m not an idiot Boss; I know you don’t want me alive unless I’m easy to check on. You’re also too lazy to find someone else to do the job.”
“You should consider this for more than half a second, Kazuhira Miller.”
The cold metal of a gun was pressed against Kaz, this time at his temple. Big Boss was doing something that he’d only done for Kaz. Give him a second chance.

Summary
Trapped in an anything-but-mundane cycle, William Graham, FBI detective extraordinaire, finds his mind failing him more and more as time passes. He is faced with those who truly wish to help him, and those who only wish to use him, but he cannot discern who falls into what category.

Elnias tells Will the tale of the dead Prince Ruvyn, and that Will is the reincarnation of his eternal soul. Should Will complete three grueling tasks before the moon is full, he will be able to retake his throne and reclaim immortality.--
“It only takes one drop of blood?” Will asked. He looked up at Elnias for confirmation. Should his throat be slit right then and there, Will was not sure if he would be upset or relieved.
“Only one,” Elnias assured.
Elnias held out his palm, and Will was too willing to offer up his own.
Elnias used one of his long claws, and pricked Will’s finger. Blood welled to the surface, but it was no worse than having his blood sugar tested at a hospital.
Elnias turned over Will’s hand, and they both watched as the drop fell and hit the page of the open book.
