Frank was the sun that Fiona orbited around— he burned hot and bright, was the center of gravity. The center of his own universe, and as a result, the center of hers. She didn’t know any other path to travel on. Everything led back to him.
The sun died out. Explosion in a crematorium, bright flash like a supernova. Now there’s nothing for the rest of them to revolve around, and they’re too small and far apart to have any pull of their own. All they can do is collide into each other.
After two years away, Fiona finally returns to Chicago.
