There is a picture in one of the books of a worn young man, heavily scarred with gentle eyes. Remus Lupin, he is identified as. The man who was watching Charles, and presumably Harry. The man who died defending them. Harry traces his fingertips over the man’s face and wonders.
And then he stops, and reels all those thoughts into a tangled knot and tucks it away.
They didn’t want him; that’s fine. He doesn’t want them either.

Love this Harry and Hedwig the carnivorous trunk. Also really like his interactions with Snape. Don't really like the interactions between the adults. Draco is probably supposed to be endearing but is annoying as hell. Also truly hate how much of the plot is IN THE AUTHOR'S NOTES instead of the story. Still slogging through this because of Harry, Hedwig and Snape, but I'm in chapter 14 and it's becoming a bit of diminishing returns.

I really wanted to like this, but I fucking hate stories where they bounce around in time so much you have to keep referring back to the subheadings to figure out where a scene fits into the timeline. IF (and it's a big "if") I archive this story, I will put all but the prologue in chronological order SO IT FUCKING MAKES SENSE.

In which Severus Snape isn't a Death Eater and doesn't want to be one either. Albus' attempt to recruit him into the Order of the Phoenix doesn't go very well as he's made to realize that never having Severus' back in school has lost him many potential allies.
Lily Evans learns that she's been lied to quite extensively and now has to reevaluate her life and where she's going.
As for Severus... he's finally getting some sun.
