The war had whittled down the number of people she truly trusted, through bloodshed or falling out or swollen political ambition, to exactly one. And she didn’t even know him well, if she were being honest.
But her heart had been one with someone else’s once, and that woman had trusted him beyond words.
That was what had planted the idea in her head in the first place. It had felt so warm.
Zelda pinched her eyes shut and pulled the blankets over her head.
