Summary
Once again she’s reminded how incredible it is to have someone who doesn’t treat her like a freak, a science experiment that happens to be useful, or the opposite and equally offensive: fragile. Jake treats her like he trusts her to handle herself, and he does, their time together in China as a team solidified that. She can only hope that the easy atmosphere stays.
He bites her again, harder this time, pulling her back into the moment with a gasp. He pulls back to check that she’s okay then shares her sly smile and slides her towards him, her knees on either side of his hips. There’s the unmistakable press of him against her core and even though her expected anxiety rises she’s still got her mind on how grateful she is for him, deciding to push on his chest even though it unfortunately breaks their kiss as she slips off the counter and to her knees in front of him.

Staying clear of the dance floor, Jake sat by himself at a circular table with a flute glass of wine (although he wished it were something stronger), having already taken off his suit jacket to drape it over the chair next to him, wondering why exactly he had agreed to come in the first place.
