Summary
This wasn't supposed to happen. Emily wasn't supposed to die for a long time. Lawrence and her were gonna grow old together, they were gonna raise Lydia together. He never planned this, not even in his wildest dreams. And, of course, he never Juno to come back in his life and threaten to ruin it any more than she already has in his 27 years on this Earth.
This time, however, her threats have become so severe that running away somewhere, anywhere away from New York is preferable than staying. Winter River was like finding an oasis in the middle of a desert, and his new landlords and neighbors, the Maitlands, as the cooling water. Perhaps, with the Maitlands' help, he can prove to everyone that he can be the best father to his little girl that he can be.

Summary
Lawrence Betelgeuse Brightman has never considered being a single dad to Lydia after the loss of his wife or running away to some nowhere town in Connecticut in his life, it only being an unlikely possibility in the back of his mind. Of course, life has a funny way of making the least expected, horrible outcome happen.
Now, it seems, he'll have to leave his life in New York after Juno forces her way back into it, taking Lydia with him for the ride. Of course, his new neighbors and landlords in Winter River are happy to help with getting his life back together. And maybe, perhaps, they can help him with more....

Even more strange is that he chose to buy a house with his business partner. This, Igor can't understand at all. One of the best things about having a family, in his humble opinion, is that the only work-related activity going on in his home is shit-talking his foreman to his wife. Who in their right mind would want to live with someone they work with?
So, the running theory in Igor's mind is that Dan is a co-founder of some kind of cult. It would explain the eclectic decorating choices as well, if the purpose is to confuse and disorient whoever steps foot in his house to make them more susceptible to being persuaded.
Or: an outsider pov from the perspective of a humble European gamer who is just trying to figure Dan out.
