    Summary

"Will you two — can you behave tonight?" Eloise says, exasperation in her voice and her nose scrunched up.

Colin wears an innocent face. "I can't think what you mean. Penis and I always behave."

"I swear to God —" Penelope hisses, plonking the wine down hard on the counter. "You both have to stop with that —"

"I mean it!" Eloise exclaims as she goes over to the large bowl of salad on the side and begins to toss it aggressively. "None of your usual Pen-and-Colin shit, please. Edwina's bringing someone new, and I want him to think we're… normal." She sighs, shoulders sagging. "Normal-ish. Normal enough that he doesn't run screaming." Her eyes narrow. "And if I'm honest I'd rather avoid another evening of you two bitching at each other."

"We don't bitch," Colin insists, though they do, in fact, bitch. "Penelope is my dearest friend."

Affectionately labeled “hag polin” I enjoyed the Great Gastby airs in the setting and the prose. Delicious prose. Dropping hints here and there about what this version of Polin have done to end up where we meet them. You have to appreciate the commitment to authenticity - a Colin that is jealous of Debling despite knowing he got with his new wife, a Colin who thinks being with Pen will make her realize they should be together and who proposed in moments of passion, a Pen who is analyzing how she fits in the rich, loving world of the Bridgertons even though she feels she can’t possibly fit in, a Pen who endures by Colin’s side in whatever way she can because she can’t bear to be far from him. A dinner party definitely worth attending again soon.

Rogue and Gambit, a date at a bar Remy is rather well-liked at and, of course, Aggie. I’m bookmarking the series because it great, and because I want to always remember what I read immediately after my wisdom teeth surgery.

Val entices Vox with drawings into leaving work for the day and spending the night together. The result is a lovely scene making love on the balcony that feels new and them and yet like something we should see in the show someday. Fabulous work.

Valentino brought a drink this time, only for him, of course, and sips it leisurely next to where he’s propped Vox’s head up against the pillows.

“I like this one,” Val says, angling the page of his sketchbook where he’s drawing Vox’s head on more and more humiliating bodies towards him so that Vox can’t pretend he doesn’t see it.

    Summary

COMPLETED - Being cared for isn't the same as being loved. Being controlled isn't the same as being safe. Mounted on a wall, stripped of everything, Vox learns these truths the hard way—dependent on the very people he once commanded. Power, like love, requires letting go of control. What comes after isn't redemption. It's reconstruction. Some foundations can't be repaired—they have to be burned to the ground and built differently from the bottom up.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This take is chock full of good ideas honestly. For instance, I love the conflict in Val, showing Vox affection while also relegating him to watching from the wall as he brings lovers home. I love the inclusion of the betta fish, Ray. It continues the pattern of Vox and his sharks while also illustrating his smaller role in the Vees, his seclusion. “Yes, you should still be yourself” it seems to say “but in a manageable way”. It’s impossible to miss how Ray is Vox and Vox is Ray, too, a decoration in Val and Velvette’s space.
