Summary
“Rumi.”
The young child looked up at the tall figure of Celine, their shadow looming over her. Usually, normal children are easily scared by the shadows themselves but Rumi was used to it, already experiencing it a handful of times.
The same indifferent expression, the same eyes she couldn’t read, the same reprimanding tone that carried both grief and anger. She’s so used to it.
The young Rumi kept staring at Celine, “What were you doing?”
“I just wanted to make the patterns go away,” Rumi answered, holding out her arms that she made a mess in. “It didn't work though…”

“Obviously it won't work, but we don’t really have a choice.” Carlos exhaled, rubbing at his eyes with the heels of his palms. Diego stood before him, a pained look on the young man's face. He stepped forward, and engulfed his younger cousin in a hug.
“Dammit.” he hissed, pulling his younger cousin, younger brother, closer, fighting to hold back tears. “I should have killed her. Years ago. I should have killed her so she couldn't have done this, so she couldn't have done anything to you.” He took a shaky breath.
Carlos shook his head, his own eyes stinging. “It wouldn't have worked…. Not then, not now. They’re too powerful.”
