Columbia is not home. It is not safe, and it was never meant to be permanent. It is a perch— a narrow stretch of stillness carved from flight, just wide enough for Neil Josten to catch his breath after running himself raw on borrowed names and burning lungs. He tells himself it’s only a pause, nothing more. But perches are exposed things, and what rests in the open can always be hunted. Neil makes the mistake of stopping anyway.

Summary
Every hair on his new body stood on end as he quickly patted himself down, finding a wallet in his back pocket but nothing else until his shoe caught on the strap of a duffle bag, half buried in the sand under his bench. He yanked the bag up beside him, giving it a quick shake to loosen the sand clinging to the canvas fabric, before turning his attention to stripping the wallet bare.
He decided quite quickly that his other half was an asshole.
There was plenty of loose cash in his wallet, but not a single personal item of any manner. No ID. No bank card. No pictures of girlfriends or family. Not even an old receipt stuffed in the bottom.
At the very least, life hadn’t disappointed him with how shitty things could get.

"I've had six so far." He answers slowly, weighing each word. "Which one do you want?"
Six names? Yep, there is something going on there.
"The real one. The one that fits you best."
"Not my birth name then?" He sounds almost hopeful?
Andrew waits until he sorts through his thoughts. He has another hour before he has to go back.

It seems like Kevin's two worlds are colliding. It may be a good thing after all.-

”As he traveled along the coastline, he continued driving until the distant glow of the small town faded from view. Without casting another glance at his mother, he parked the car and left the keys inside. Getting the gasoline and lighter that his mother had left for him, he doused the car with fuel before taking a final deep breath. He ignited the lighter and threw it into the car.
As the car erupted in flames, he took hurried, panicked steps away and stumbled back onto a sand dune. He collapsed, pulling his knees to his chest and his panicked gasps turned into heavy sobs.
Tears streamed down his cheeks until he was left with only dry sobs. With his face buried in the folds of his thick hoodie, he sat fixated on the flaming wreckage of the car as the first light of dawn began to streak across the sky. The rising sun casts a warm glow against the ocean, highlighting the contrast between the chaos of the night and the light of the new day.”
