Summary
Trish understood that when people said "Christmas magic", they were referring to the feeling that Christmas brings, not to actual "sparkly alakazaam shoot you with a glowing sceptre" type magic.
That type of magic wasn't real.So then could someone please explain how she ended up shrunken to the size of a doll, surrounded by talking toy soldiers, and hunting down someone called a "Sugar Plum Princess" in a mystical fairy land in a mouse hole?
This was not how she was planning on spending her Christmas Eve.

Summary
Trish Una’s life was fine. Not perfect, and certainly not bad, but fine. Sure, she had never met her super rich and mysterious father, and classmates had a tendency to whisper after her wherever she went, and she was about to start grade 11 without ever having made a real friend. But she didn’t need friends or a father- she and her mother were getting on just fine by themselves, thank you very much.
That is, until her asshole dad (who she doesn’t even know!!) was threatened and she was sent away to a whole new city to live under the care of a gaggle of bodyguards who apparently worked for him.
Now she’s gotta deal with a new school, grades, crushes, and strangers trying to kill her.
‘Cause being a 16 year old girl wasn’t fucking hard enough already.

“With this ring!” Leliana held the ring in her hand up to the skies, her grin growing. Glancing down, she noticed a small bush bare of leaves and slipped the ring onto one of the few protruding branches. “I ask you to be mine!”
A caw up above caught her attention, and Leliana looked up to see dozens of crows had flocked in the trees above her while she had been distracted. Another reason to get out of here, she figured, this place is really creepy.
Kneeling back down to retrieve her ring from the branch, she paused.
Had it just. Moved?
She really had to leave these woods, if she was starting to see things.
She reached forward.
