Ellis shivered, sitting stiffly in his seat, eyes locked on the foam art wobbling on top of the latte he had ordered.
It was cute, a mound of whipped milk carefully shaped into the head and paws of a cat poking out of the coffee. Eyes and a mouth and whiskers had been picked out with darker bits of coffee, and a sprinkling of cinnamon gave it spots. And it smelled good too, the steam wafting up as it slowly cooled to room temperature.
Ellis should drink it before it went cold, but he couldn’t stop squirming in his seat.
The cafe was split into two, for privacy reasons, so there wasn’t even anything scandalous around him. Every once in a while, one of the waitstaff would flounce past, a tray full of drinks propped up on their shoulder as they used their hip to knock open the swinging doors.
Every time they did, Ellis caught a glimpse of the other side of the store, and his heart always jumped to his throat.

At the noise, Ty had froze.
