He did not like her. That was plain. Though her situation was a confusing one – with so much lost to her recent memory – Leah increasingly felt as if her very existence was a burden to him. He felt responsibility for her, in an odd way, for he had apparently been involved in her survival, though he claimed not as much as his brother had been. His brother – whom Leah only vaguely remembered, a snapshot of his bright, fierce face, so similar to this Bran’s. But she pushed his face away because it felt like the beginning of something big and terrible.

Mrs. Selwyn herself was very public with a variety of charities – war orphans and educating Muggle-borns – and Leah had spent many a weekend as a teenager being on hand for such occasions, brought out to demonstrate the Selwyns’ commitment to rehabilitating their family name.
