"I said run," Rocky growls.

Wake up at six, take his suppressants with a mediocre bowl of cereal, review his lecture notes over his coffee, teach his classes, spend afternoons in the lab or his office working, and go home. It’s obscene in a way that has no human equivalent. I think seeing human genitals on him would’ve shocked me less, because at least that’s something you might reasonably show to another person. But this, the place that is both mouth and everything else to him, that I’ve seen exactly once and then never again because it’s viewed as so private and intimate that even an Eridian’s mate does not get to see—that’s something else. The only time he would reveal himself like this to someone else would be to lay an egg, and even then it would be something you don't draw attention to, something necessary but shameful.

Rocky lived his happily ever after with Grace and Adrian. Until he died. And then woke up a week before the Blip A was meant to launch. He makes a few last minute changes.
Eva Stratt is not having a good day. It was hard enough dealing with the aliens trying to eat her sun. Now she has to deal with the other aliens that know much more about her and Earth than she's comfortable with. And they also claim to have the answer to the Astrophage problem, provided she's willing to hand Ryland Grace to them.
Grace wishes he could stop getting 'promoted' with no option to say no. At least his new job has better hours, if you could ignore the whole being stuck in space on an alien vessel thing.

Grace knew exactly what he was doing.
He had been thinking about it all day, how Adrian had let out a deep, dark rumble last week when he’d pushed back for fun during a medical checkup (he knew she would never get mad at him for actually being uncomfortable), the way Rocky mad grabbed him by the hips with just a little more force when Grace was mouthy about trying the new dinner options his care team was testing out. They’d been so careful with him always, so gentle and attentive, and Grace loved them for it. But part of him had realized sometimes he didn’t want to be careful, sometimes he wanted them to take complete control and not be so soft with him.
So, when Adrian had asked him to help her organize the supply inventory in his house that evening, something that he normally would’ve been happy to help with, Grace looked her dead in the eye and said, “I’m okay.”
