“What…” Bruce shakes his head slightly, grunting at the effort it probably took him to make such a simple movement. Jason knows that under that cowl his eyes are flitting about wildly, doing his best to take in every detail and analyse all the information available to him, which can’t be much given the position his head is in: laid against Jason’s chest, tilted up so that their eyes meet, and unable to move very far.
“Jason?” His voice sounds rough, thick with blood and scratchy like he’s recently been strangled (and maybe he has, Jason doesn’t keep tabs on him, so who knows).
“Yeah, old man,” Jason replies, trying to keep his voice steady and not give away the pure panic that’s currently rushing through his veins, “It’s me, try not to be too disappointed."
Or: Jason and Bruce get trapped under an exploded warehouse, and there is no such thing as a happy ending

Alfred finds himself left with a little boy to care for. Not just any boy, but a Wayne, destined for greatness like his parents. He does his best to raise him, and it hurts his heart - really it does - but sometimes that means discipline.
Bruce knows he’s not good. Well aware that he deserved what Alfred gave him when he was a child. But now that he has children of his own, Bruce can’t fathom disciplining them like he was.That doesn’t mean Alfred was wrong to inflict those punishments on Bruce. Bruce deserved it. Just not his kids.

Bruce's hands were shaking as he gripped the steering wheel, shifting in his seat. He's trying to get his breathing under control but it's a struggle with the drugs still in his system. It's been two days. Two. But he can barely remember anything, and that simple fact fuels so many different emotions.
OR: Bruce is assaulted, but that gets miscommunicated. Everyone is having a horrible time, but there is hope.

something something bruce offhandedly mentions being autistic and it's like a record scratches as his kids turn to him with expressions varying from "how the fuck did i not know" to "why the fuck did you not tell me." there's the beginnings of an argument because, well, it would've made communication a lot EASIER if they knew.
Excerpt:
"They called you autistic to your- Bruce, did no one do anything??" Dick asked. He was very aware of the kind of bullying a newly-orphaned kid might receive, but it had never been anything like that."It was the 80s, they used the more outdated term. And they were right, so what was there to report?" Bruce shrugged.
