She noticed for the first time how meticulously tailored his robes were, fitted to him like a second skin. She tried but failed to imagine the body beneath.He just seemed so unilaterally formed, like a gargoyle affixed to the ramparts.

Her mind couldn’t find its way to a reality in which he existed as a man of flesh and breath. How could he, she thought, possess any of those tender and vulnerable afflictions of the human condition? His hand is warm and heavy on Brasso's flank. If he concentrates, Brasso can even feel Cass's pulse in the skinny wrist he's still holding onto with half-hearted strength.
"What is it you want?" he pushes back. There are always consequences with Cass. Always repercussions and unseen costs. And Brasso needs to know if he can afford to let this happen.
Cass nips his lower lip between his teeth and gives a little snort of amusement. "I'm just curious. You're not curious?" His fingers tighten, clutching folds of Brasso's vest, digging into the flesh beneath.
Curious barely covers it, Brasso thinks.

Summary
Despite all odds, Severus Snape survived the war. He is not happy about and of course fate would have some stupidity or other add to his unhappiness. What he didn't know is that what he thought was a burden would slowly turn out to be a light at the end of the very dark tunnel he thinks he is in. If only he could be a light for her as well.
