Summary
When Yuuji was young, his grandfather taught him to cross open water if he ever found himself alone at night, pursued by those with glimmering eyes and bloodied teeth.
He taught Yuuji to keep a sachet of dry rice to throw over his shoulder, and sprigs of rosemary to throw into open graves.
However, he also taught Yuuji how to roll cigarettes, steal bottles of gin, how to cheat at cards and how to tell if the white flour he was buying was more plaster than wheat.
Some of these skills were more applicable and sensible than others.
