And Val—no, no—she blinks furiously against the unwelcome sting in her eyes and sets her jaw, whipping around to glare up into the shadows.
"I know you're here," she says sharply, "and I haven't got all night, so if you're only here to babysit the shark then fuck off already and leave me in peace."
In a future where Alastor has turned on the hotel and the Vees have disbanded, Alastor and Velvette have come to an arrangement.
One night, it's rudely interrupted.

"Quiet," he said curtly, lip curling in a faint sneer as he raised one elbow to rest it on the back of the couch. It took conscious effort not to snap his legs shut again, despite every instinct screaming otherwise. Alastor swallowed, throat tight and dry as he gazed down at Whittman's son on the floor, on his knees looking like he'd been bestowed a gift from fucking heaven. "What on earth did you think you were playing at?"

All of those desires were driven by a wretchedly vicious insecurity that would either forever hold him back or finally trigger him to snap.
He wanted Alastor, too. It was obvious in the way he'd lean in close after a drink or two, the pink flush climbing high over his pale skin. His gaze would linger distractingly on Alastor's mouth, his neck; would dart down between his thighs as though he didn't quite dare.
And that was a problem. Vincent was no use to him unless he learnt to dare.

Summary
Vincent’s problem was always the same: he wants.
He wants, he wants, he wants. And no amount of getting or receiving will ever change that fact, will ever close the cavern inside of him that always wants more. Getting is secondary, underwhelming in comparison to the thrill of wanting. Of chasing. When he found something he wanted, he pursued it single-mindedly. He made a plan, he pulled his strings, he put every piece of the puzzle into place. That was when he was on top of the world. Receiving his prize was little more than a participation trophy, and by the time he got it he had usually already found another want. Want, want, want.
Sometimes, at night, he wondered if his luck would run out, and when. What happened when he met someone he couldn’t charm or bully into giving him what he wanted? Who was immune to his silver tongue, his clever quips, his flashy smile or a flirtatious bat of his mismatched eyes? What happened when he took a risk that didn’t pay off?
When Vincent takes a spring break trip to New Orleans to celebrate his upcoming college graduation, he may just find the answer to that question where he least expects it.
And it will alter the course of his life forever.

Summary
Someone lands a lucky blow on Vox during a night out -- which is bad, because now Velvette has to do both their jobs and Val's a vengeful mama bear when given half the chance, but it's also nice because Vox without his memories is adorable. And vulnerable. Both of which are good things. Everyone's having a weird time. But they're the god-damn Vees, and they don't let anything that touches them leave a mark.

Summary
Vox is a simple guy. He likes money, sex, power— things any respectable, immoral businessman would enjoy. He doesn't do messy. He doesn't do things like get attached, and for damned sure doesn't have the time or patience for complicated relationships. So naturally, the first time he decides to fixate on anyone but himself, it's an absolute catastrophe.
