Maximilian didn’t know why she did it.
That one lone chance that she would ever have to get away from her father couldn’t be let to pass as she wasted away in this place. Each day her willingness to stay alive waned, waiting for the moment her father’s abuse would finally land that killing blow.
She knew her father didn’t like the knight. A reincarnation of wigrew that had slain a dragon, and now spent his days running errands for the king.
“P-p-please,” she stuttered out. “Y-you are m-my only s-s-source of h-h-hope.” She dropped her forehead to the ground as the whispers between his men began.-
Maximilian asks Riftan to help her escape her father, and he agrees, so long as she gives him something only she could offer him.

Summary

The door swung open, loudly crashing against the wall, a knight looking for the banshee that had somehow made its way into the castle. But instead all he saw was the lady of the castle screaming, blood all over the bed, the midwife moving around, and Ludis pulling a small bundle of blankets away from Maxi and into her arms.
For any other newly married woman, becoming pregnant immediately after marriage must be a blessing to be thankful for. But for Maximilian? It was a horrifying thought. That she would become like her mother and aunt, a vessel for the child her husband wants, used until she is no more than a broodmare.
And to find out while still in her father’s estate? There was no way to have hope, unless… she was able to escape.
Plans fall through easily when Maxi has no knowledge of the outside world. But at least her husband’s men are there to take her away to Anatol, the home she had no knowledge of.
