“Look at him,” Piers coos. “He’s just a baby!”
He’s got his palms flattened on the viewing window, face smushed against it like an overexcited toddler. His wedding band clacks loudly against the glass and the person sitting inside the room swivels to face the godawful sound, all wide-eyed innocence and naivety.
Leon flinches away from the puppy dog, cockeyed curiosity and fixes his scowl on Piers, who has the good sense to look vaguely cowed, though not enough to be truly apologetic.
“Piers,” Leon says, exasperated, but Piers is unrepentant.
“It’s not like it’s one way glass,” he defends, and Leon sighs.

“You’re–No fucking way, Peter,” Serenity gaped, slamming her hands down on the open register, startling him. “The Avengers are at table seven.”
“What.”
Tony was on the Avengers. Tony couldn’t keep his mouth shut. Oh God, Peter’s identity.
Something like unmistakable dread must’ve come up on Peter’s face because Serenity gave him a pitying look.
“Oh, don’t worry, you’ll do great. I mean, you’ve been working here for a few weeks now, you’re practically a pro,” she reassured, patting him on the shoulder before walking past him and shouting over her shoulder. “It’ll be hard to fuck up!”

"Wait a second. Peter, was the Stark internship just a cover for being Spider-Man?"
Peter winces. "Yeah."
In a masterful act of self-control, Ryland refrains from swearing once more. "Are you saying he encouraged it?"
"No! Okay, well, just a little. But not really? I swear, Mr. Stark didn't do anything wrong!" Peter stammers. "He—"
"I've heard enough," he says firmly, cutting him off. Internally, though, Ryland wants to scream; maybe bash his head against a wall for good measure. Of course, what happened during college would come back to bite him; of course, it would. Because why would good things ever happen to him?
Or: Ryland Grace finds out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Consequently, he meets with Tony Stark for the first time in years, roughly two decades after their college hookup. This is a problem.

“Listen,” Pepper says. “I’m at the food bank right now and Ms. Zavala from R&D called in sick. She has two students coming in this morning to be interviewed for the internship, 9 AM. I won’t be back in time, so if you could just talk to them, or at least start with the first one, until I get back.”
Tony processes all that a moment.
“Tony?” she asks.
“You’re at the food bank? How much do I pay you?”
She gives another little huff. “Charity, Tony. Did any of the actually important things I just said register in your brain?”
“Oh, all right. Consider it my charity work for today.”
