Summary
After the fall of King’s Landing, Alicent Hightower lives under guard in Rhaenyra’s former chambers protected by the woman whose crown she helped usurp, whom she turned into an enemy, and whom she never stopped loving. Alicent turns and looks at her daughter with a frown, not immediately understanding the meaning of her words. Helaena is gazing at the city, hands gripping at the banister with such strength that her knuckles are turning white. Before Alicent can ask anything, her daughter speaks again.
“We should leave,” repeats the young woman, voice gaining conviction. “You, me and Jaehaera. We should disappear where no one will find us. Far from their war and their greediness.”

Summary
.Alicent has seen Rhaenyra's cold gaze following her after she married Viserys. She remembered how the girl looked at her with disdain, how her words were more bitter than her actions. All these years of anger, hatred, denial and yet, for the first time in her life, Alicent could not recognize her anymore.
And that realization sends jolts of paralyzing dread through her body. Because, god's be good, if she's lost so is the whole realm.
