Summary
Sam Winchester had been prepared to see a lot of things soon: signs of the oncoming apocalypse; the deaths of his family; Lucifer himself on the other end of a gun. One thing he had not been prepared to see was his brother making out with an angel of the lord.
Said brother and said angel of the lord also looked very unprepared for this, watching themselves clutching at each other from the other side of the room.
aka, Dean and Cas are pulled out of their world seconds before the Empty takes Cas, seconds after his confession. They find themselves in Bobby's house, the night before Ellen and Jo died.

Summary
When Sam finds Dean after the Empty, after everything, there is blood on his brother’s face. A handprint laid across his cheek in what should be reminiscent of their father’s brutal touch but only appears as reverence, as worship. Dean is in the middle of the dungeon, his hands gripping his thighs so tightly Sam knows they’ll be bruised, and he is on his knees. He looks like he’s praying.
To what, Sam will never understand.
