Summary
Evan Buckley never knew who Daniel Buckley was. To Evan, Daniel was a headstone in a cemetery. He was a ghost who shared a name with Buck and never had any flowers or visitors. Not until Evan found him and decided they were family.
Evan became Buck became 'Toy Story' became Evan Buckley-Diaz. And through all of it, he wrote post-cards to a headstone in a cemetery in Hershey, Pennsylvania, making sure to keep the forever (almost) nine year old as part of his life.
So when Buck gets out of the Army, when he's healed as much as he can be, he has an idea. Buck couldn't be the only one in the military who never had family to talk to while he served. Making a non-profit to connect other veterans felt like the most reasonable decision.

Summary
A squeak came from the ground in front of Buck, and - sure enough - the gray-black rat he’d seen before was sitting in front of him, looking expectantly upwards.
“Bobby?” Buck gasped.
Squeak.
“I - I can’t understand you. If you’re trying to answer, all I’m hearing is squeaks.”
Dejected squeak. The rat looked downwards and shook its head.
“Um, shake your head yes and no, okay?” A nod, good. “Are you Bobby?”
Frantic squeaking. The rat - Bobby the rat nodded his head enthusiastically.
OR Bobby is reincarnated into a rat. It gets weirder.
