Summary
Frank huffed, setting the mug down. “How many times are we going to have to go over this, Mel? I like listening to you talk. I’m not just being nice. We’re friends.”
“It’s important to ask,” she said, still watching him carefully. “Because sometimes people say they want to know something but they don’t actually mean that they do. They’re just being polite. And it’s hard for me to tell that, always.”
“I’ll tell you what,” he suggested. “Let’s make this easy. With me, you never have to ask. Consider it my… blanket approval, I guess.”
He pointed to himself. “I, Frank Langdon, am interested in what you have to say.”

Summary
When Mel visits a college in Pittsburgh, the last thing she expects is to end up giving a ride to a complete stranger.
Frank Langdon is everything she's not, and somehow, everything she is.
He's charming, pessimistic, and carefree. She's uptight, careful, and a people pleaser. Either away, they get each other.
But they can't be friends, that's what Frank insists. Friendship between men and women don't work. Attraction always gets in the way. Mel is certain he's wrong.
There isn't any attraction between them. They're just friends.
(Aren't they?)

Summary
Frank was here. At a speed dating event. Which meant that he’d spent his evening sitting across from a dozen other women, looking for the same thing she was - a relationship.
The realization made her stomach sink. For months now, she’d been telling herself there was a reason Frank hadn’t made a move. Maybe he wasn’t ready after the divorce. Maybe he wasn’t even interested in dating at all - maybe he was too busy with work and the kids to even think about it. But he was here, which meant none of those things were true.
Frank wanted a relationship - just not with her.

Summary
She is midway through a thought about how delightful her sandpit is when a high-pitched voice cuts through the air. “Hey! What’s your name?”
Mel turns, a red plastic shovel clenched in her fist. She searches for a moment, unsure where the voice has come from, before she spots a dark-haired head peeking over the wooden fence separating her backyard from the neighbour’s. The Petersons had it put in right after Becca and Mel learned to walk. Through the gaps between the slats, she can see the outline of a boy standing on his tiptoes on an overturned bucket.
She drops her shovel and walks over to the fence. There’s a multi-coloured table lying on its side in the grass. Becca normally holds her tea parties there, but Mel doesn’t think her twin will mind her using it as a stool. Especially not for a potential friend.
Or: Frank is Mel's next-door neighbour. They grow up together. It's hella cute and angsty.
