Yelena’s eyes narrowed, a spark of irritation flashing in her gaze. "She can go get herself killed for all I care," she snapped, her words sharp and cold, though they rang hollow in the room, lacking conviction.
Sonya's grin only widened as she sat up a little straighter, clearly enjoying Yelena’s discomfort. “Uh-huh," she said, her tone light but teasing. "Is that why you’ve saved her ass three times already?”
Yelena’s scowl deepened, her cheeks flushing with anger—or was it something else? “Shut up,” she growled, her voice lower now, though the tension in her body gave her away. The silence that followed was thick with unspoken truths, hanging between them like a weight Yelena wasn’t ready to acknowledge.
