    The story diverges from the original novel after Yang's death and the Imperial Capital's move to Phezzan. It begins in the eighth year of Reinhard's reign, when he is 30 years old, and concludes with Hilde's death in her middle age. The early chapters focus on Reinhard's corruption by loneliness and power, as well as the unhealthy issues in his relationship with Hilde during this period.
