Summary
“Oh god, not you,” Charles groans, crossing his arms on his chest.
The Batman visibly rolls his eyes (blue, of course, because all men that messed with Charles’ life had that in common apparently) at his reaction, but another look at Charles makes him step closer.
“Yes, always a pleasure. Are you ok?”

Summary
Max takes a cautious step closer, turning the blasted hat round and round his hands.
“Charles, I did not come here just to give you the lamb. I came to tell you,” He bites his lip, eyes crinkling at the corners under the force of his smile. “I came to ask you, Charles, if you would marry me.” He lets out a breath, like he’s let go of a tremendous weight. “I have never asked anyone before.”
Charles nearly chokes, hysteria bubbling up in his gut, the same panicky disbelief that bubbled up when Pierre proposed to him on their graduation night.
“No,” He cannot help his laugh, the silly thing curling through the air between them, landing poorly. It makes him feel young. “No, I should hope not.”

Summary
Sometimes, the cold lighting of the meeting rooms in Milton Keynes would catch just so on the string around Max's finger and he’d do a doubletake at its colour. Under the fluorescents, it looked faded, as if someone had siphoned out some of its vibrancy.
He wished he could photograph it, so that he could compare how it changed day by day. Prove to himself that he wasn’t imagining things. That he really was dying.

OR, Charles unknowingly rejects his and Max's soulbond on a cloudy evening in Austria in 2019. Max won't go where he's not wanted, even if that means he's signing his own death warrant.

Summary
The Cruel Prince if Max Verstappen were Cardan Greenbriar and Charles Leclerc was Jude Duarte
-----
"What? Speechless for the first time in your life?" Max sneers, but there's a hint of uncertainty beneath his arrogance.
Charles slides off the edge of the desk to stand right in front of Max—not believing what he's just heard. He presses the knife tip under Max's chin, forcing his gaze up to him.
Max doesn't flinch—doesn't pull away. He meets Charles' gaze head-on, blue eyes burning with something defiant.
"Go on," Max dares, voice low and rough. "Cut my throat. At least then I'll finally be free of you."
But there's no real bite to the words—just exhaustion.
Charles leans in slightly before pausing—watching Max closely.
Max's breath catches, eyes flaring. His heart's beating an irregular, fast rhythm he can't control. He tries to keep his expression neutral. He doesn't move a muscle—but his eyes drop to Charles' lips for one traitorous moment.
Charles watches as Max's breath hitches and pulls back quickly, still keeping his knife under Max's chin. He stares, unable to hide his own shock.
“You are obsessed with me.”
