Of course Ilya wasn't going to choose him.
And now, he stood in their kitchen like a stranger, having to pretend be okay with the fact that Ilya went out and hooked up with Svetlana on a night meant to celebrate hockey's greatest. A party he wasn't even invited to as a captain himself.
What a fucking joke.
He spent the entire day coming up with meticulous loopholes and justifications for something that was actually quite simple—nobody remembered. Shane was wholeheartedly forgotten and he was too proud, or maybe dense, to figure it out himself.

“The game,” Wei Ying continues, oblivious to Lan Zhan’s inner monologue, “Is called chicken.” Chicken — should Lan Zhan be looking up local feed stores that might sell them? Bring Wei Ying a pair? They hardly have room with how much space the rabbit hutch takes up, but both are peaceful creatures, so perhaps chickens and rabbits will get along. Or, a more frightening thought, perhaps Wei Ying intends to eat the chickens. Maybe this is a roundabout way of saying he wants dinner. That in itself is no problem, Lan Zhan will gladly feed him, and — ah, Wei Ying is still talking. He says, “The game is called chicken and whoever falls in love first loses!”
Lan Zhan freezes. His thoughts clatter to a halt, that tangle in his chest reaching towards his throat and hooking into the soft skin of his mouth, keeping it shut tight.

Wei Ying has a plan. It's a good plan. A great plan. A plan with no room to go wrong -- a game of chicken, and whoever falls in love first loses! After all, he loves Lan Zhan so much that he's already won.

Wei Ying collapses to cross-legged with a bounce that shakes the whole couch, barely managing to do it without landing on Lan Zhan’s legs. (She does manage it, though, because she’s a genius.) She pauses long enough to evaluate her options and then flings herself basically into Lan Zhan’s lap, wiggling around and flailing annoyingly and actively taking up as much space as possible. When she’s done she has her head resting on Lan Zhan’s pelvis, arm wrapped around one of Lan Zhan’s thighs where it arcs over her shoulder, and legs draped over the arm of the couch. It’s very warm, and very secure, and extremely comfortable.
It is also easily more intimate than they’ve ever been before (not counting the sock wrestling), which probably breaks at least five Rules (Wei Ying will not be listing which ones), and Wei Ying can feel her heartbeat pounding nervously in her throat.
Or: A normal afternoon, a shared couch, and a surprise game of Ultimate Gay Chicken.

At a random party, Jimin is challenged to play a game of gay chicken against his number one rival, Jeon Jungkook, which would be less of a problem if they both weren't totally incapable of admitting defeat. On top of that, Jimin finds it rather alarming how well he fits into the idiot’s lap.
